Devil’s Food Cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream

My very best friend Jennifer and her lovely husband both had birthdays this week and Scott and I were going over Saturday night to visit and celebrate.  Jenn and I have been friends forever, and I wanted to make something extra decadent for her birthday.  She also happens to be 32 weeks pregnant, and baby needs some sugar in his life. 😉

I “cheated” on the cupcakes and used Duncan Hines, there is a reason they have been selling their mixes for years and years, they are good.  I had also procrastinated for most of the day and no longer had time to start from scratch.  I’m not afraid to admit that, not one bit.    I found a recipe for Nutella Buttercream on The Family Kitchen  and altered it just a tiny bit for these cupcakes.

Nutella Buttercream Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 5 tbsp whipping cream

Beat together butter and Nutella until creamy and smooth.  Add in vanilla extract and whipping cream, mix to combine.  Add in powdered sugar and whip to reach desired consistency.  Pipe Nutella buttercream onto cooled cupcakes and serve.

Best enjoyed with a glass of milk and good friends.
